Get 8 hours of sleep

Adequate sleep is often overlooked as part of a weight loss program. Seven to eight hours of sleep should be a goal for everyone, whether they’re trying to lose weight or not. When you’re not getting proper rest, your body’s energy is sapped. You’re less productive, less likely to exercise, and more likely to feel hungry and overeat. This will hamper anything you’re trying to accomplish, including losing weight. Eight hours of sleep will combat all of this. Set a regular time to go to bed and to wake up each day. You’ll be shocked at the difference regular sleep makes in your motivation–and your weight loss!

Get up without hitting the snooze button

Along with getting regular amounts of good sleep, getting up right away can also help you keep energy levels high all day. You can actually train yourself to feel more awake and energetic. The first step is to stop laying around in bed when you’re not sleeping. Your body needs to understand that when you’re in bed, it’s time to sleep, and when you’re up, it’s time to be awake. Hitting snooze two or three (or 10!) times messes up that education process. The body gets confused, making you feel tired when you don’t want to be. It also makes the next night’s sleep more restless, continuing the cycle. This is a Fast Break that can be tough at the beginning, but by the end of two weeks, you’ll feel refreshed in the morning and more active all day.

Tell one person about your goals

Telling others about your weight loss goal makes you more accountable and more determined. Amazingly, many people never tell a single person (not even a spouse) about their goals. Many are afraid of what others will say. They don’t realize the positive response they will receive. Most likely, you’ll find people eager to help and keep you motivated. Try starting small by mentioning it to just one person, be it a spouse, family member, friend or mentor. All it takes is a minute. Their motivation could be the difference this time.

Write in a journal 3 times per week

Journals are easy ways to track what you eat and to record daily exercise. More importantly, they allow you to express your feelings. Many times, we keep thoughts and feelings to ourselves, afraid to share. Journals can be a non-threatening answer. Keep it in a regular place in the house, or carry it around so it’s accessible at any moment. You may discover that you’re eating too much, that you’re eating when you’re upset, or the reasons you want to lose weight in the first place. And there’s no time requirement. If you only write for 30 seconds, that’s fine. It’s the act of writing out your thoughts and feelings that’s important.

Love yourself

If you find yourself feeling really uninspired or particularly down on your body, try shifting your focus to self-appreciation. Instead of beating yourself up for not losing a pound this week, be grateful for how your body moves and all the things it does for you. Shift your focus from how you look to how you function and cultivate gratitude for your senses, your limbs, your ability to dance, walk, and run.

Collect a motivational picture

For some, words motivate. For others, images do the trick. If the latter appeals to you, collecting motivating pictures is the way to go. The boundaries are limitless. It could be a famous person you look up to. A family member or spouse whom you want to make proud. A younger picture of yourself. It’s important to pick something that’s motivating to you, regardless of what it is. Look at it at least once a day, and feel free to use several pictures. Take it with you or place it on the mirror, wherever you’ll see it most often.

Post on People’s message boards

Message Boards are great places to get help and weight-loss strategies. It’s easy to find specific topics, or you can cruise around and pop in and out of conversations. Posting on the boards will get you in the habit of sharing your success, and asking for help when you need it. It also allows you to encourage others as they go through the same journey. Someone could share a strategy that helps you clear a hurdle or they may give you those supportive words when you really need them. Many boards have become havens for many, and they could have the same effect on you.

Read from a motivating story or book each day

Motivational or inspiring quotes are great for a quick pick-me-up. If you prefer a longer, more involved message, this is for you. A motivating story or book allows you to spend more time giving thought to chasing your goals. Some of us draw inspiration from cheering for the underdogs. Others find inspiration in stories of tremendous courage or overcoming setbacks, through stories of personal tragedy and triumph. They conjure emotions in us unlike any other form of entertainment. We can often understand what the characters are going through and think about how we can aspire to be more like them. Just one character can give you the drive needed to stick with your goal.

Don’t set food off limits

If you can’t have dessert, you’ll want it all the more. So instead of eliminating it, just limit it. Let yourself have a bite. Otherwise you’ll just eat everything else! Telling yourself you can’t have something just feels terrible. It’s a punishment and it starts the negative thinking train rolling down the tracks. The truth is a bite of that cake won’t make you gain weight — but three pieces will. So load up on your steamed veggies for dinner and sneak a taste of your friend’s dessert while she’s not looking. The massive amount of cauliflower you just ingested proves you deserve it.

Reward yourself for reaching your Fast Break goals

Rewards are an important part of reaching goals, no matter if they’re small, medium or large. Sometimes, you need a little extra incentive to keep pushing; this is it. Pick a reward that is important to you, something you really want. Something that’ll make you do things you normally might not. Something you may even daydream about. Rewarding hard work is a habit everyone should have, regardless of their goals. Enjoy picking your own rewards. Then keep them in mind as you pursue your nutrition and fitness goals.

Lift the weight you have lost

I found that  good way to stay motivated , when you reach a weight loss plateau, is to lift weight, Use dumbbells that are equal to the number of kilos of fat you already melt !Feel how much you’re struggling to lift, and remind yourself that this used to be around your belly or on your butt !Personally, I like to represent my melted fat in oil bottles.  Can you imagine walking every day carrying 12 bottle of olive oil ?

Join a charity event

Join a charity event to raise founds  and make the commitment to lose X kilos in a time frame. It’s really hard to blow off a commitment you’ve made to lots of people. If you default on your goal, you are not just letting yourself down but also the charity and everyone who sponsored you.

An Instagram a day

They say a picture is worth a thousand words! build a personal weight loss motivation gallery on instagram tracking your progress !  Document the changes in your body that you may not otherwise notice, and that the scale won’t always show. Create that wide variety of before and after pictures to choose from when you’re ready to display your final results!

Remember that numbers  are not important !

Weight loss is not just about what your scale tells you, as building muscle will slow down the numbers on the scale but actually become an ally in melting fat and lasting weight change! Don’t be too hard on yourself. Whether you fall behind in your workout schedule, or indulge in an unplanned ice cream cone, little hiccups along the way are natural and to be expected. If you feel you’ve slipped up, accept the fact and continue as planned with your weight loss routine. Keep in mind that your health, physical and mental, are the most important motivating factor in the process. Losing weight is one benefit of a fit and healthy lifestyle but so is a more energetic outlook!

Read an inspirational quote each day

When you need a jolt of inspiration, a personal quote or motto is the perfect remedy. A motto only takes three seconds to read but can have lasting effects on your mood and performance. “It’s always too early to quit,” is just one example of thousands. Finding a lot of strong quotes is easy. Go to the bookstore and leaf through a quote book, or do a little searching on the Internet, and you’ll find plenty to choose from. You can look for a particular theme or choose from numerous quotes from a favorite writer, historical figure or celebrity, depending on what inspires you. Read one every day and soon you’ll find yourself craving them, anticipating the buzz it will provide you.

Listen to a get-up-and-go song each day

Music is a great energizer. No matter if we’re sick or tired, if it’s a rainy day, or if it’s just a “blah” kind of day, there are always a few songs that perk us right up. If one or more songs hold this power for you, use them. It’s going to take energy to stay on track with your weight loss goals. Consider your get-up-and-go song a healthy alternative to caffeine or coffee. Listen in the morning when you’re getting ready for the day, or at work when the afternoon lull hits, or several times a day! Pick a few of your favorites or stick with one. Then, when you need a motivational lift, pop it in and crank it up
.

Talk to a positive friend or family member

It’s a proven fact: People who include others in their weight-loss goals are more successful than those who don’t. Talking to a positive friend or family member will keep you more accountable and in better spirits. When you hit a bump in the road, especially during the early stages of your program, talking to a supportive friend can be the difference between staying on track or crashing into a ditch. Just a few minutes a day is all it takes. This small step could be the beginning of a great support system as you continue pursuing your weight loss goals
.

Give yourself a 5-minute pep talk each day

Sometimes, we get down on ourselves. It can happen in the blink of an eye. Your boss criticizes a project, a friend cancels on lunch, or just a random rush of disappointments that can come at any time. When this happens, combat it with a 5-minute mental pep-talk. You need these occasionally to stay positive and to stay with your nutritional and fitness goals. It’s convenient because you know when the pep talk is needed; there’s no mistaking these moments. With a pep talk, you can rid yourself of that negative self-talk and get back on the right track.

Post your goals where you’ll see them

So you’ve set some goals. Now what? One technique that can help you reach your goals is to first write them down, and then post them where you’ll see them most: on the bathroom mirror, next to your computer, on the refrigerator—even in your car. Posting your goals will serve as a reminder for what you want to achieve, and keep your goals in the forefront of your mind. Then, when you’re faced with a temptation, you’ll be thinking about your goals and hopefully make the right choices throughout the day.

Watch a motivating or feel-good movie

Just as music can evoke an emotional response, a good movie can, too. Inspirational stories can motivate you to take action and reach your own goals. They also give you a reason to believe that you, too, can achieve success. For a motivational pick-me-up, pick up a feel-good movie that inspires you. After you watch it, harness that motivation to work toward your own goals!

Read a weight-loss success story

Many people enjoy reading about the success of other people who have reached their weight-loss goals. This is a great way to find motivation, and learn about the practical tips that everyday people like you have used successfully. There are countless success stories that are heart-warming, awe-inspiring, and downright incredible. Look through those stories whenever you need a pick-me-up, and let them serve as a reminder that you can do it, too!

Get pampered with a massage

A new study from Ohio State University shows that women who accept their bodies are more likely to have better eating habits.Getting a massage can help with that. Allowing yourself to be touched by another person, even when you aren’t at your ideal weight, will help you become more comfortable with your body.

Register for a class

Join a group exercise class and make friends with your fellow regulars. Seeing your pals will inspire you to attend even when you feel like playing hooky. The guilt factor that is always highly motivating, can help here too. After all, in a place where everybody knows your name, they’ll also know when you’ve missed a workout. Also consider buying a package of  maybe 10 sessions be it exercise , dance , yoga, …and scheduling all your appointments now.  Buy a bunch in advance and sign up at the same time. You would not want to throw away workouts that are already paid, would you ? Personally I LOVE dance , it has the ability to shift my energy, puts me in a good mood, and because it is so much fun for me, I don’t feel tired after!

Adopt a dog !

If you don’t have one already, adopt a dog or commit to help your neighbor taking care of her pet. Having a little friends that needs to walk out a few times a day will help you get going and drop some more pounds. He also has to stay in shape so rain or snow, hot or cold , get out  and move with him.

Hang your sexiest skinny dress out

Hangs that sexy dress you absolutely love but that you have not been able to wear in a long time , having it outside your wardrobe door to help stay motivate as it serves as a visual reminder of the goal you are trying to reach.

Find ways to channel your emotions

When we are happy, we eat. When we are sad, stressed or frustrated we eat. When we have nothing better to do, we eat. Unfortunately, when dieting, alternative methods of feeling must be used!

Start thinking about when and why you eat, not just what. Maybe you always eat mindlessly when you’re watching television, or maybe you go straight to the fridge when you’re stressed. When you become aware of your patterns, it becomes easier to determine the cause. Start by keeping your hands busy like painting, knitting, reading, or doing a word puzzle can keep you from grabbing the popcorn.
